PlatformUptake.eu meets GATEKEEPER

On April 19th, 2021, representatives of the GATEKEEPER and PlatformUptake.eu Projects met (albeit virtually) with the aim of exploring potential collaboration activities to  promote the large-scale uptake of open platforms in the Active and Healthy Ageing (AHA) domain.

The PlatformUptake.eu project aims to deliver an inventory of the state of the art and analyze the use of open platforms in the AHA domain. It achieves this goal by covering both open platforms and partly open/proprietary platforms developed by industry, addressing the interactions between these solutions. To measure the impacts of such platforms and enhance their uptake, the project developed a methodology for monitoring open platform development, adoption and spread across Europe. To ensure its practical applicability PlatformUptake.eu established key factors that determine success or hindrance in the uptake of the platforms by their key stakeholders and networks.

On the other hand, GATEKEEPER’s main objective is to facilitate the creation of a platform that connects healthcare providers, businesses, entrepreneurs, and elderly citizens and the communities they live in, to finally crate an open, trust-based arena for matching ideas, technologies, user needs and processes, aimed at ensuring healthier independent lives for the ageing populations. The scope of the project is the application of AI, IoT and mobile health technologies to tackle the challenge of improving the quality of life of citizens while demonstrating its significant efficiency gains in health and care delivery across Europe.

Innovative digital care services for early detection of risks and intervention will be demonstrated around reference medical use cases and demonstrated at Large Scale in 8 regional healthcare systems from 7 EU member states and in 3 Asian countries, with the aim of involving about 40.000 elderly citizens.

GATEKEEPER is additionally creating a Community of Interest that involves stakeholders from the supply and demand sides through an open innovation approach in 8 regional communities, from 7 EU member states. The online spaces offers to its members a great networking opportunity to get fresh ideas, raise own organization’s profile and establish business connection. (Source: www.gatekeeper-project.eu)

During the online meeting, the two projects’ representatives agreed to participate in joint actions to exchange but also validate the knowledge acquired in the field to ultimately support the development of an open market for digital solutions for active and healthy ageing. Of particular interest for GATEKEEPER are the monitoring and self-evaluation tools which are developed by PlatformUptake.eu and already under implementation on the project’s Open Information Hub. Their role will be to enable platform providers and users to self-assess the success and uptake of the open platforms in the AHA domain.
